Dog Wrestling 2004-2005 a new level:
To
start, a quick recap of the teams success from last year, the team
finished 11 and 3, defeating Muhlenberg College, New York Maritime
Academy, Elizabethtown College, Luzerne College, Williamson Trade,
Northampton College, Valley Forge, Army Prep, Gloucester College,
York College JV, and Middlesex College. The team finished 1st in
the Messiah Tournament, 1st in the King's Tournament, and 2nd in
the Kutztown Tournament.
The
team won the runner-up position in the NJCAA region XIX tournament,
thus sending 7 team members to compete in the NJCAA National Competition
in Rochester Minnesota. The team was led by All-American freshman
Jeremiah Warner, a Pine Grove graduate to an unprecedented 5th place
finish in the team standings, again a new record for the bulldogs
on the national level.
At
Thaddeus Steven's we compete in the National Junior College Athletic
Association (NJCAA). As stated last year the Stevens wrestling team
finished fifth in the country in the NJCAA National Wrestling Tournament
in Rochester, Minnesota placing one All-American, Jeremiah Warner
who finished 4th, the highest national finisher ever by a Stevens
wrestler. This 5th place national finish was the team's most successful
finish since joining the NJCAA in 1987.
All-American
Jeremiah Warner of Pine Grove is returning this year along with
3 other national qualifiers in Kyle Cleary a state runner-up from
Pine Grove, Ryan Bunting of Garden Spot and Brad Bechtel of Hershey.
Jeremiah's twin brother and Pennsylvania State Champion Jake Warner
is joining the team this year as well. Returning starter and two-time
state qualifier Justin Kopp, returning starter Pete Burkholder of
Warwick, and returning starter Terrel Leach, and sophomore heavyweight
Matt Sharp are all ready to lead the team this year which has added
many talented freshman to the room. The likes of which are Wesley
Brenner, Dan Prenger, Mike Wilson, Tony Miller, John Cambra, Josh
Witmer, Will Mechalske, Zane Lamens, Josh Smoker, Troy Hostetter,
Brandon Matthews, Matt Heisler, James Berrier, Jason Edmiston, Lee
Mason, Chris Aikens, Anthony Berger and wrestling veteran Jack Scampone.

NJCAA
National Qualifier REGION XIX AT NASSAU GARDEN
CITY NY. - STEVENS SENDS FOUR TO COMPETE AT THE NJCAA 2006 NATIONAL
TOURNAMENT!
February
11th 2006 - The bulldogs were led by freshman Collin Klouser who
placed third at the NJCAA Region XIX tournament thus qualifying
for his first trip in Rochester Minnesota to battle to be Stevens
first national champion. Collin is joined by 3 sophomore, two of
which are making there second trip to the big show, they are Zane
Lamens of Everett high school at 174 pounds and Tony Miller of Greencastle
Atrium high school at 285 pounds. The trio are joined by one more
sophomore Troy Hostetter of Rockwood high school. Steve Hohenwarter
and Wesley Brenner both fell just one match short of earning a trip
to the national tournament as well. Over-all the bulldogs finished
fifth in the region. This marks the seventh time in as many years
that the bulldogs have finished in the top five in the region. Best
of luck bulldogs as you train and prepare for the national tournament
to be held in Rochester Minnesota. Dress warm, the Midwest schools
are experiencing record amounts of snowfall. Best of luck to all.

defeats Luzerne
Tuesday
January 24th - Stevens was lead by sophomores Tony Miller and Troy
Hostetter as they beat Luzerne 33-9 on Tuesday night. The bulldogs
also received points from Collin Klouser, Elias Zavalla, Josh Maurer
and the Warner brothers who returned to the mat as this was an unsanctioned
dual, the twins picked up a pair of falls to help close out the
night. The boys travel to nationally ranked Gloucester community
college on Saturday to battle the roadrunners on their home turf.

Stevens
placed 4th at the Northampton Invitational
January
21st 2006 - Stevens was lead by sophomore Zane Lamens who placed
first at 174 pounds, followed by fellow sophomore and workout partner
Troy Hostetter who placed second at 165 pounds. Also in the medal
round were two of the BIG BOYS!! This tournament was run by the
NCWA which has a 235 pound weight class where Tony Miller placed
fourth and freshman MONSTER Josh Maurer placed fourth in the 285
pound weight class, and Steve Hohenwater placed fourth at 141 pounds.
The dogs will face Luzerne Community College on Tuesday night AT
STEVENS at 7:00 o'clock PM. It will be t-shirt night and the wrestler
who records the fastest pin will toss a free t-shirt into the loudest
and most energetic part of the bulldog crowd! Hope to see everybody
there!

Heavy weight Danny Ortiz a state qualifier for Reading high school
lead the young bulldogs this weekend in Grantham Pa by placing fourth
in his first college tournament! The bulldogs will wrestle again
next Saturday in Wilkes-Bare Pa in the King's Invitational.

The young bulldogs continue to improve as they battled through the
competition this weekend at the King's Invitational in Wilkes-Bare
Pa. The bulldogs were lead again by Danny Ortiz a state qualifier
for Reading high school at heavy weight, placing third in his second
college tournament! Congratulations bulldogs and good luck as they
will travel to Kutztown Pa, on November 24th to compete in the Kutztown
Invitational.

The young Thaddeus Stevens College bulldogs were led by sophomore
and returning national qualifier Tony Miller at 197 pounds who placed
second at the Kutztown Invitational on Wednesday November 23rd.
Tony was the lone finalist of the day however, was joined in the
medal round by Sophomore Zane Lamens who placed fourth at 174 pounds,
sophomore Troy Hostetter who placed 5th at 165 pounds, freshman
Josh Smoker who placed 6th, and freshman standout heavyweight Danny
Ortiz who placed 5th. Thus far Danny has placed at every tournament
he has entered. The bulldogs will travel to Middlesex New Jersey
on Sunday December 4th for their next competition. Best of luck

THADDEUS
STEVENS PLACES SECOND!
Freshman
Steve Hohenawater and sophomore Troy Hostetter captured first place
this weekend and lead the Thaddeus Stevens bulldogs to a second
place finish at the Middlesex invitational in Edison New Jersey.
The day started on a frozen and slushy Sunday morning with the bus
getting stuck in the Stevens parking lot around 5 Am. However, the
bus driver saved the day as he got the bus moving and a mere 4 hours
later the bulldogs arrived safely and ready to wrestle and wrestle
they did!
the
following is a breakdown of place finishers form top to bottom,
Wes Brenner from Mechanicsburg placed second at 125 pounds. Not
to be outdone, freshman Collin Klouser of Upperdaupin high school
placed second at 133 pounds. AT 141 pounds Steve Hohenwater of Lancaster
Catholic won his first college tournament at 141 pounds. At 165
pounds Troy Hostetter of Rockwood high school also captured the
elusive gold medal as he was a returning runner-up from the Middlesex
tournament last year. At 174 pounds Zane Lamens of Everett high
school placed third. Sophomore Tony Miller of Green Castle Atrium
just missed the gold medal as he placed second. Tony now has a second
place medal from the fall of 2004 at the heavy weight division,
and a second place medal from the fall of 2005 at 197 pounds. This
is the second tournament in a row in which Tony placed second as
he was also a runner-up in the Kutztown invitational last week.
A pair of Josh's also scored points to help the bulldogs to their
second place finish, the first being Josh Smoker at 157 pounds and
the second being Josh MauRer at 285 pounds.
The
bulldogs will travel to Williamson this Thursday to wrestle the
rival Mechanics in there home gym. Despite wins in the past few
years the bulldogs are the underdogs this year as Williamson will
be heavily favored to win the match. All are invited to come along
and cheer on the bulldogs as they will need to wrestle well and
have a touch of good luck to beat their foes despite the odds being
stacked against them. This will be the last match of the semester
for the bulldogs and they hope to end on a positive note despite
what others are saying.
